St Non's popularity as a wishing well, and the use of its waters to cure various complaints
and to dip babies in, continued into the 18th century when the present stone vault
was built over the well.
It was fully restored and rededicated by the Passionist Fathers in 1951.
At the same time a small shrine was placed opposite the well.
The water is considered to have healing and miraculous powers and was thought
to be particularly effective for eye problems .
