Spring Squill - "Scilla Verna" are low / short hairless perennials forming bulbs .
With narrow basal leaves , grass like and often curly , and erect leafless
stems bearing 6-petalled star-shaped, flat or bell-shaped violet-blue
flowers , with bluish bracts .
Like most cliff-top plants they are low growing , up to 10cm , and very
tolerant of salt spray.
Only found on the coasts of Western Britain and Eastern Ireland.
Following DNA analysis they are now classified as members of the
Asparagus family (Asparagaceae).
