A Neolithic long barrow / cairn with a stone gallery known as Bedd-yr-Afanc
or 'Grave of the Monster'.
The only known Gallery Grave / Passage Grave in Wales dating from the Neolithic period.
A single long gallery , without side-chambers or forecourt - aligned roughly east west.
On a low mound , a double line of low standing stones (up to 0.4m tall ) survive ,
leading to a small chamber created by a further 7 stones at the western end.
The capstones have been lost , as well as the earth covering.
According to legend the Afanc (water monster) used to live in a pool near the bridge over
the Brynberian river , was captured and killed then buried in this mound on the hillside.
