Plant Fossil - "Lepidodendron"

Lepidodendron - known as scale trees - now an extinct genus of primitive , vascular ,
tree-like plants related to the lycopsids (club mosses) .
The Giant Clubmoss sometimes reached heights of over 30m and thrived during the
Carboniferous Period.
The plant tended to break up , and gave rise to fossil names for its constituant parts.
roots - "stigmaria" ,
stem - "lepidodendron" .
leaves / branches - "sigillaria".
Location - On a slab of rock on the foreshore just south of Rickets Head.
