Waterwynch Bay

On a very low tide , about 1.2m or less , it may be possible to walk to this pleasant sandy bay
from Tenby North beach.
------------
Just visible is Waterwynch House .
Charles Norris (1779-1858) settled in Tenby in 1805. He produced topographical books illustrated
with his drawings and etchings, notably Etchings of Tenby 1812.
His numerous drawings are an important record of the medieval buildings of
Pembrokeshire. Tenby's Flemish architecture was of particular interest .
In the late 1810s, Norris was given a plot of land facing the beach a mile to the north of the town,
by the Burgesses of Tenby, in recognition of his work in promoting the town.
Norris used the land to construct in 1818 the sprawling mansion that is Waterwynch House ,
a building that he lived in until his death in 1858.
In 1920 Waterwynch House became the residence of Lord and Lady Risdale into whose
family Stanley Baldwin was married and who spent many holidays there.
